Welcome to the WK9 Fantasy Football Ranking NFC Edge Rusher IDP Start/Sit Chart cheat sheets presented by GridironRatings.com Where the only original and proven IDP start/sit chart “cheat sheets” via The IDP Tipster can be found. And yes, there are a few imitators, but there is only one true original five-step formula IDP tactical tool. A formula with a well-tested history for over a decade and a proven high-hit rate in IDP play well before sharing it with the public four years ago. And all of that history and relevancy is only available here for G.R. fantasy football family members.

Needing to split those IDP hairs between two or more players with the same color code? Besides our great Player Ratings located in the main menu, our Oddsmakers IDP tactical tools were originally intended to do just that. And they are located on our The IDP Tipster member page or perhaps even on our main article page.

WK9 Fantasy Football Ranking

* The Fantasy Football Edge Rusher Chart would traditionally contain just the 3-4 outside linebackers and 4-3 defensive ends from the NFL’s two-base defensive schemes. But at times, for whatever reason, some of the main sites list some 3-4 defensive end. Not to mention some strongside linebackers from the 4-3 scheme. And one of those main sites that have been engaging IDP owners for quite a few years with the designated Edge Rusher position as an option is ESPN.COM.

So although this author doesn’t personally consider those 3-4 defensive ends a part of the true Edge Rushers, we will set these charts by whom they list as such. Because even if the position has been around for some time, on a few sites. It’s still in the process of gaining traction by IDP owners. And there still needs to be a baseline set somehow. So what better way to do it than with the old school, and one of the originals, but ESPN.

Note, this listing of ESPN Edge Rushers may not reflect this author’s Edge Rushers rankings or the Gridiron Rating player ratings. But until it is a full-fledge position used across the board and a player standard is set. We can’t ignore what the users of the charts and IDP owners may have access too. We’ll also mention that the Edge Rusher formula for these charts adds at least one additional step over the traditional five.

Week 9 / NFC Edge Rushers

NOTICE – Chart Key Marking Fine-Tuning Update

This was not applied to all the charts yet but will be by WK6. We are using a new STAR method this year that needed a better user-friendly feel.

Avoid Weak
1/5
Barley Solid
2/5
Firm Solid
3/5
Really Solid
4/5
Firm Strong
5/5

Questionable (?)  –  Out (O)

Doubtful  –  (D)  –  Injuried Reserve (IR)

NFC North

Bears Edge Rushers

Khalil Mack
4/5
Barkevious Mingo
2.5/5
Robert Quinn
2.5/5
James Vaughters
1/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: As marked versus the Titans. And adding that Mingo and Quinn are “barely” just solid on paper. But either could overachieve as they continue to split snaps fairly evenly. And considering what the Titans give up off the edge the odds are decent one does. If we had to lay the odds even more on the situation we would mention that Mingo is having a fairly better season than Quinn.

Lions Edge Rushers

Romeo Okwara
2.5/5
Everson Griffen
2.5/5
Austin Bryant (O)
0/5
Julian Okwara (IR)
0/5
Trey Flowers (IR)
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: With Flowers on the I.R. now Romeo Okwara could get the opportunity to shine a bit more. But it’ll be really tough this week versus the Vikings, who allow a lot to the interior but protect the edge very well. And so well we have them both marked “barely” just solid this contest.

Noting as well that his rookie brother is due to come off of the IR after this contest. And it could be an interesting situation to watch. Can he overtake the tough veteran Griffen? Likely not this season. But we certainly can’t take it off the table considering his brother’s abilities.

Packers Edge Rushers

Za’Darius Smith
0/5
Preston Smith (?)
0/5
Rashan Gary
0/5
Jonathan Garvin
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: Played Thursday.

Vikings Edge Rushers

Ifeadi Odenigbo
1.5/5
D.J. Wonnum
1.5/5
Danielle Hunter (IR)
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: At the moment this is the only two listed edge rushers (DE) that we have to work with after they traded away Ngakoue to the Ravens. The Vikings basically started one real DE (Obenigbo) and three DTs. Obenigbo played 79% of the snaps but did very little in the matchup. Which he had marked as weak based on what we had via the formula versus the Packers and the new situation.

Wonnum saw 49% of the snaps mixing in and did overachieve in the box score. But we need to see more at this time. If we look at his box score it was padded a bit. In all, he had one tackle, one, a sack, and a forced fumble. Those are not stats we can count on, other than the one tackle. And we can go as far as saying that anyone who happens to risk playing last week got lucky as he did with the stats. So for now we wait this out and see what happens over the next couple of contests.

We’ll roll with the as marked via the formula this week, and it isn’t any better than it was last contest. The Lions are right there where the Packers are at allowing production off the edge.

NFC south

Falcons Edge Rushers

Dante Fowler Jr. (O)
0/5
Takkarist McKinley (O)
0/5
John Cominsky
1/5
Charles Harris
1/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: They haven’t had a pass rush to speak of when Fowler or Takk have been in. So there is no reason on paper to expect that they will versus the Broncos without them.

Panthers Edge Rushers

Brian Burns
2.5/5
Stephen Weatherly
1.5/5
Marquis Haynes (?)
1/5
Yetur Gross-Matos (IR/?)
0.5/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: As marked last time this entire squad got into the Falcons backfield last contest. The Falcons offered a top-three matchup when it came to protecting the edge. But that isn’t the case this contest versus the Chiefs, who aren’t as generous. As far as Burns, he is “barely” just solid. We’ll also note, not that he had made a major impact before, that Gross-Matos can come off the I.R. at any point now.

Saints Edge Rushers

Cameron Jordan
2.5/5
Trey Hendrickson
2.5/5
Marcus Davenport
2.5/5
Carl Granderson
0.5/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: We’ve talked this one into the ground this season. So we’ll list the snap counts from last week and then sum it up.

Jordan with 95%, Davenport with 65%, and Hendrickson with 61%. And the way that adds up, as we suggested could happen, they have done the smart thing and these three are all seeing time on the field at the same time. That came at the expense of some playing time of the third LB and DT they had been using. Which for IDP is good because those guys weren’t producing anyhow.

There are problems with this situation if or when it continues. One is, there will only be so much production to be had each contest, so now that’s divided up between the three. And then there is the case where one of them could be left out in the cold here and there as the other two get all the production.

What do we mean by that? Well, it is a bit of a “risk versus reward” in the odds that all three can support being inserted into our lineups. And the odds are at some point when we keep depending on them to produce, one or even two won’t, based on the matchups. Somewhere down the road, this is going to cost someone in the box score. We would be shocked if it doesn’t happen at some point. Just something to think about if you own one of them.

And they are as marked versus the Buccaneers this week. Adding someone will overachieve as they are all a firm just solid and would have been a touch more if there were only two main guys.

Buccaneers Edge Rushers

Jason Pierre-Paul
3.5/5
Shaquil Barrett
3.5/5
Anthony Nelson
1/5
Quinton Bell
0.5/5

Advice/Note: As marked versus the Saints. It’s just a matter if both can hit par or overachieve versus the Saints.

NFC East

Cowboys Edge Rushers

Aldon Smith (?)
2/5
DeMarcus Lawrence
2/5
Randy Gregory
2/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: As marked versus the Steelers. And of course, one might overachieve the barely marks. But the great matchup contest streak is over this week after playing Washington and the Eagles. It’ll be hard to sit a stud, but if you have another solid player with a solid matchup there is likely less risk if you consider going there.

Look at it this way. The Cowboys offense is struggling, and the Steelers defense is one of the best. Add in that Steelers offense is pretty good, and these guys won’t see a lot of opportunities to make plays. And that’s not counting the on=paper results either.

Giants Edge Rushers

Kyler Fackrell
2/5
Jabaal Sheard
1/5
Oshane Ximines (IR)
0/5
Lorenzo Carter (IR)
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: Overall, there is nothing to see here or trust versus Washington this week.

Eagles Edge Rushers

Brandon Graham
0/5
Derek Barnett
0/5
Josh Sweat
0/5
Genard Avery
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: Byw Week.

Washington’s Edge Rushers

Chase Young
4.5/5
Montez Sweat
4/5
Ryan Kerrigan
2/5
Ryan Anderson
1.5/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: We are going to go out on a limb here and say that Young flashes like we did the first couple of weeks versus the Giants this contest. And there is a very good reason that Sweat made our waiver wire article this week.

NFC West

Cardinals Edge Rushers

Haason Reddick
3.5/5
Devon Kennard (O)
0/5
Markus Golden (traded for)
2/5
Kylie Fitts
1/5
Dennis Gardeck
1.5/5
Chandler Jones (IR)
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: And there is a good reason versus the Dolphins on paper we had Reddick in our waiver wire article again this week.

As for Golden being active after the Cardinals traded for him and he’ll likely start. But we need to see something before we give him full credit in a matchup. And with Kennard still around and possibly back next contest we still might not be able to pencil him in right away.

Rams Edge Rushers

Aaron Donald
0/5
Leonard Floyd
0/5
Samson Ebukam
0/5
Terrell Lewis
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: Bye Week.

49ers Edge Rushers

Kerry Hyder
0/5
Arik Armstead
0/5
Dion Jordan
0/5
Ziggy Ansah (IR)
0/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: Played Thursday.

Seahawks Edge Rushers

Benson Mayowa (O)
0/5
Carlos Dunlap
2/5
L.J. Collier
1.5/5
Alton Robinson
1/5
Shaquen Griffen
0.5/5

SEE NEW CHART KEY ABOVE -Advice/Note: Let’s just say that on paper it is not a good week for Dunlap to debut as a Seahawk.
