* The Fantasy Football WK1 Rankings Edge Rusher Chart would traditionally contain just the 3-4 outside linebackers and 4-3 defensive ends from the NFL’s two-base defensive schemes. But at times, for whatever reason, some of the main sites list some 3-4 defensive end. Not to mention some strongside linebackers from the 4-3 scheme. And one of those main sites that have been engaging IDP owners for quite a few years with the designated Edge Rusher position as an option is ESPN.COM.
So although this author doesn’t personally consider those 3-4 defensive ends a part of the true Edge Rushers, we will set these charts by whom they list as such. Because even if the position has been around for some time, on a few sites. It’s still in the process of gaining traction by IDP owners. And there still needs to be a baseline set somehow. So what better way to do it than with the old school, and one of the originals, but ESPN.
Note, this listing of ESPN Edge Rushers may not reflect this author’s Edge Rushers rankings or the Gridiron Rating player ratings. But until it is a full-fledge position used across the board and a player standard is set. We can’t ignore what the users of the charts and IDP owners may have access too. We’ll also mention that the Edge Rusher formula for these charts adds at least one additional step over the traditional five.

Attention, Please! As mentioned in the examples real in-depth Advice/Notes are an option when they are needed. And considering that the Edge Rushers opposition in the NFL, for the most part, is stable, users will start noticing that those notes and such will start diminishing as we go.

Advice/Note: Quinn is finally entering the picture fully healed from his ankle injury, is he on your waiver wire after missing all this time? Just a thought for future contests if you’re needing the option, especially if he happens to be listed as a DL in your site. As for Mack, he is still nursing that knee but was able to get in 83% of the snaps last week which is just shy of his mark, and did practice enough to look like he’ll go this week versus the Falcons. With that being said and because of what we just mentioned, on paper, we’ll go “just solid”. The Falcons haven’t exactly been real friendly allowing production to the edge so far this season. And although either or both of these players are capable to overachieve the mark, we’ll go safe just in case this time around.

Advice/Note: Welp, as marked (weak) because of the matchup last week versus the Packers, the formula was right on paper with Flowers getting nothing. Although Romeo did slip in there and managed to get some production (4 combined tackles), we can’t exactly count on that just yet. And for now, his rookie brother Julian (healthy scratch) is completely off the map as he went from limited playing time in week one to out in two. Fortunately for Flower owners, on paper this week it looks a lot better in terms of formula results versus the Cardinals, so feel free to deploy him as marked. And we’ll see what Romeo does heading into bye weeks. We may just have a decent play if he can repeat or overachieve this week and week four.
FYI, as some of you may know how the Lions are making Tracy Walker owner’s lives miserable. here’s a bit of what the Detriot community thinks in real life about Julian being sat out and keep in mind this is the same sentiment with Walker’s situation.

Advice/Note: So some notes here to take into consideration as we move forward. One, P. Smith isn’t getting it done so far and another week like the first two weeks he’ll lose credibility in our formula. To his defense, both teams he faced rank 31st (DET) and 32nd (MIN) in our production tracker in allowing production to the Edge. And it’s not going to get any easier for him versus the Saints this week. Two, considering what said about the matchups, Z. Smith works off the blind side, so rushing life is a bit easier for him on the weak side in terms of opportunity. And seeing him get some, well that’s upside when you facing a couple of the best in those terms.
And now third, which might be the most interesting. Because the Packers have no full-time ILB next to Kirksey, in a scheme that should, they have found ways to get second-year player Gary on the field. And it’s not in place of either of the Smiths the majority of the time. Here are the two-week totals of playing time in snap percentages.
Z. Smith 89% – P. Smith 88% – Gary 60%
This just might come in handy when we get to bye-weeks in deeper formats. Because they are getting all three edge-rushers in on packages and overloading the opposing team’s O-line, and doing it often. I’ll add I’m impressed by the Packers DC strategy. And on top of it, they must be getting Gay in a prime spot when all three are on the field because he is producing and really did in week two. And again, in tough matchups on paper. Just something to note for our future reference.

Advice/Note: Hey look at Ngakoe making a little impact week two, still glad we went safe in the marks, just “safer” to do so. Hunter owners as well as Vikings fans have to want Hunter back as soon as possible, that’s an obvious statement, right? With that being said and because Ngakoe did manage a little in week two in a tough matchup he’ll get what the formula indicates versus the Titans in week three. But for now, no upside added, so it’s “just solid”.

Advice/Note: As of the time of this publication, Takk isn’t trending after not practicing all week as of Friday’s practice report. And if he is, it’s a groin injury, and with his history and being so early in the season, we don’t advise trusting it even if he does play. He has a long way to go to gain that kind of trust. As for Fowler, he did get a limited session in on Friday and reportedly trending upward to play. His is an ankle injury, so although this matchup versus the Bears is pretty strong, we’re going to knock it down slightly and hope for upside on the safe side. And of course, if either is out, it’s way too early to go this deep here and play a replacement from this squad.

Advice/Note: Congrats to Mr. Burns, showing some consistency early on this first two weeks. We need that from some newer IDP plays with how the 2020 season has been. And basically, he outperformed our safe approach marking, not knowing for sure if we shouldn’t. So let’s keep rolling another week or so before we add upside and see what gives, or not. And yes, three decent weeks in a row would matter in or upside factoring. And week three is also certainly in his favor on paper versus the Chargers. But we’ll say real solid, with upside and be safe without jinxing it at the same time. And in the process, we’ll see what Gross-Matos has after missing week two with a concussion.

Advice/Note: So for those that do not know, the Saints have a lot of draft stock into Davenport, making a trade during the draft with Miami to select him 14th overall in the 2018 draft. And he was the starter with Jordan in 2019 but was coming off a 2018 injury that lingered season only to get injured later on in 2019. And remarkable both injuries in both seasons came in games “lucky’ thirteen. We also have waiver wire guy Hendrickson, which deservedly so has been hot off the wire this early season, he was a 2017 third-round draft selection. And instead of the Saints moving the veteran Jordan back to his old weakside position all this time, they kept him at the strongside rusher where he had been moved to in 2019 to let Davenport have an easier go of it.
So you now may be asking, why all of this info? Well, it’s a warning as Davenport enters the picture again after letting his elbow heal. Hendrickson is likely going right back where he was and that was as a rotational player giving Davenport and Jordan breathers. At least the history we have. So keep that in mind if Hendrickson all of a sudden becomes M.I.A. But who knows, maybe this time he impressed enough he sticks in the rotation more. But still, it’s very unlikely he would be more than a bye week play at most if he does. Just something to think about if you recently picked him up off the waiver wire.
As for this week’s matchup, go as marked with the Packers allowing very little to the edge rushers on paper to be safe. And understand that Jordan is going to have to work hard to get his. But he is rarely completely shut down.

Advice/Notes: Smith still produced but found it really tough to record a sack in week two. Lawerence performed well with limited snaps (28 total) because of his lingering knee injury, and old veteran Griffen proved to us he has still got something left in the tank versus the Falcons. Now comes the drama of what kind of rotation we might see in week three and how much time each guy gets on the field. We’re going to assume that Smith remains the most relevant but might take a slight dip in snap counts. With all that said, the Seahawks is a cherry matchup on paper, just go with what’s marked and keep all I mentioned in mind.
And just think, Gregory, who was no slouch when he played, hasn’t even entered the picture yet as he is practicing but awaiting reinstatement.

Advice/Note: Nice, Sweat did make an impression with Barnett and Graham out in week one enough that he kept a portion of snaps in week two with them both back. But it’s a double-edged sword, as that limited the other two players opportunities a bit. Which means instead of two-way production we divide by three. But dynasty wise, Sweat remains a stash. And for now, he tempers our formula a bit and sees how this plays out versus the Bengals this week. So keep all this in mind as we mark them by the on-paper results with a pause……Hence, all three are “just solid” and one may be left out in the cold.

If he pulls off an overachieving contest versus the Browns this week and gets it again in week four versus the Ravens, we likely have a matchup-proof IDP play on our hands. So what’s that mean? It means we can basically set him and forget him as we would with all the big named studs. We are still going by the on-paper results now, but adding a touch of upside on Young. Goodluck to use, we need this as the 2020 season has been really off, more than normal early on.

Advice/Note: A bit of confusion, in a very solid matchup, it was Kennard and Reddick that performed well and not the stud Jones. Trust me when I say this might be the first time that has happened with Jones in as long as I’ve been sharing the formula with the public. He was still an every-down player, so maybe he was worn out and they concentrated on him, who knows. We aren’t going to freak out yet, this type of thing can happen to the best of them. We’ll just roll with the on-paper results and see how it works out versus the Lions, which isn’t a great test because they are currently bottom two in allowing production to the edge rushers. So let’s not sit a stud unless you have another stud with better marking.

With Ford out, at least for now, that’s the assumption. When he returns, who knows. This week’s contest versus the Giants isn’t as easy as one would think on paper, with or without Bosa. So if you need to go here, for now, and in this contest don’t expect any upside marks and as a matter of fact, this one is “barely” solid enough to insert them.
