Welcome to the fantasy football’s Top 26 dynasty IDP targets under 26 in 2020. This series of articles is intended to help those fantasy football owners looking to revamp or start a dynasty roster. So why 26 under 26? Because our focus is on a group of fantasy football defensive players that are no older than 25. And have shown to be long term potential IDP assets at the highest level. The kind players we want to have on our rosters as they hit their prime years. And hopefully helping us earn a few titles as the seasons roll by.

Dynasty IDP Targets Ranking Ground Rules

Ranking fantasy football players can vary in opinions. So we will lay out the ground rules on how those IDP hairs were split between these players. Starting with the following things taken under consideration. And making this statement now.

No matter how, when. or why it’s an opinion. And the same can be said on who the players are that are chosen to be in the rankings.

So with that being said, my credentials in IDP knowledge runs around fifteen years now. And much of that time is not just spent on fantasy football data. It also includes researching and keeping up on the latest reports and news. And although “numbers” have to be used to rank. I find that those IDP hairs are so thin to split that normally I’d soon have any player within a difference of ten from any given rank.

The point here is we’ll list the considerations taken into these rankings. And my personal opinions are just that. Because all of the 26 and likely a few that didn’t make my list, boils down to my personal preferences.

College Credentials

Devin Bush, the son of former NFL safety Devin Bush, was a four-star recruit out of Florida where he attended Charles W. Flanagan high school in the city of Pembroke Pines. He enrolled at the University Of Michigan in 2016. Where it just so happened, his father recently had been hired as a defensive analysis.

His freshman season was spent as a backup linebacker learning behind upperclassman while playing special teams. Then as a sophomore, in 2017, he entered the starting lineup for the Wolverines at linebacker and instantly made an impact and maintained that level throughout his junior year in 2018. In those two seasons combined, he recorded the grand total of 161 combined tackles, with nineteen for a loss, ten sacks, and eleven passes defended with one interception. Noting that oddly enough, Bush had no forced or recovered fumbles in those 25 games played according to SRCFB.

In those two seasons, Bush was either awarded or considered for multiple awards. Those honors included a two-time first-team All-Big Ten, Big Ten Defensive Player and Linebacker of the year, and two different All-American honors. All together his efforts had him as one of the top linebackers prospects after forgoing his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Devin Bush was the 10th overall pick by the Steelers in the 2018 NFL draft. They wanted their guy so they traded up with the Broncos to be able to select him. In the transaction, Denver received a 2019 second-round and a 2020 third-round pick to move down to the 20th overall. And the Steelers planned on getting their values worth his rookie season off the top. By automatically inserting him in a rotation with the first-team linebackers. His amount of playing time depended at times on the match-ups at the time, or what head coach Mike Tomlin felt was necessary for personal. Bush did receive plenty of the snaps available on the season to qualify as a fulltime player with 82%.

In sixteen games, with fifteen as an official starter, Devin Bush showed a lot of playmaking abilities on the field as a rookie. He wasn’t necessarily in coverage as much as fellow teammate Mark Barron, but he did end the season with four passes defended, and more importantly, two interceptions. Bush showed his talents manly by making tackles and disrupting the opposing offenses plans during the contests. And he finished the season with 109 combined tackles, with 72 of them being solo stops. He led the team in tackles and added nine tackles for a loss, four fumble recovery, a forced fumble, sack, and touchdown. Also, Bush earned a Professional Football Writer’s Association All-American honor, and in the sixth game was the AFC Defensive Player of the week.

We’ll start by addressing the elephant in the room, at least for those that may be following this series.

The Devin’s Dynasty IDP Targets Delima

As seen HERE, we had Devin White ranked in 13th, and now we are slotting Devin Bush in the 12th spot. So readers may wonder why I went this way, and believe me, it was tough at first. Because first off, both linebackers are in the 3-4 defensive scheme, at least in those terms used in the NFL. But each team does utilize their personal a little differently, even if the base scheme is the same on paper. And noting HERE in the dated IDP Bible why I would have preferred one over the other if one of the players was in the 4-3 base scheme. Both players also have comparable football pedigree in terms of high school and college history. As well as both players are comparable in physical metrics and their combine numbers.

The IDP hairs weren’t split based on all of that information from this writer’s point of view. The pluses versus the negatives on each player were just too balanced in the end. And as any writer of a site that offers a great fantasy football tool, I went to our reliable GridIron Ratings HERE. So, what did I find? Nothing less than the separation among the ratings significant enough to help continue the process. The ratings are close and comparable when taking the availability rating for each player in mind. And we know White was injured for three weeks, and that although Bush was healthy, he was inconsistently used at times by Tomlin pending the situations. But to this writer, the details lay more on the solo rating and that larger margin, versus the differences in the overall, performance, and opportunity ratings.
