Welcome to the Super Bowl LIV quick hits presented by Gridiron Ratings. Where we’ll be talking about either a Kansa City or San Francisco player that will be key in Sunday’s game. And will either need to step it up or do what they do best to help win the biggest game of the year. This year’s contest is as intriguing as it gets when it comes to personal on both sides of the football. And we’re going to break down some of those situations that will determine who’ll bring the Lombardi trophy home.
Defensive End Frank Clark #55
Frankly, Frank Clark hasn’t quite lived up to his own hype since the Chiefs acquired him from the Seahawks. At least during the 2019 regular season. But he did manage to take advantage of the Houston Texans mediocre offensive line in their first playoff game. Clark recorded three sacks, with four quarterback hits, and four combined tackles. Just to come back the following contest versus the Titans with his own mediocre performance. That contest, he recorded just three assisted tackles, one solo, and a sack.
But this is a team effort, and his part was enough to help get to the Super Bowl. And Chiefs fans have to hope that he can delivery Sunday. Because according to the Football Outsiders, he’ll be facing the 49ers top three overall ranked offensive line.
And during the 2019 regular season, Clark was ranked 68th as an edge rusher by PFF. Slotting him in at a grade of 63.3, that’s not exactly the pass rush expert they expected when the Chiefs went after him. But again, according to PFF, his performance against the Texans did move him up currently to the 54th spot. And his total of eleven misses at 46 attempted tackles, isn’t helping their or their cause either.
But maybe the stars will be aligned just right Sunday, and Clark will get to the quarterback and disrupt the 49ers backfield. And overall he is likely their most talented defensive end, and without him applying the pressure, the Chiefs will struggle.
