Rookie IDP Rankings
The busiest time of the year for fantasy football redraft leagues is here. We’ve had plenty of NFL reports surface over the last few days. So it’s time to update the top linebackers in the rookie IDP rankings for redraft leagues.
#1 Standing Odds In 2021 Redrafts
The Rams drafting Ernest Jones as high as they did in the third round stood out. Doing so with very little draft capital in 2021 caught my attention. That draft stock and his rookie profile on top of knowing the lack of ILB talent the Rams had were telling. Jones landed at the second spot post draft based on those things alone.
Over the offseason, things have swung in Jones favor even more. At least according to reports leaked by the organization. All indications are that we were on the right track back after the draft. The Rams want Jones to replace Micah Kiser. Kiser struggled to replace Corey Littleton in 2020. He and the rest of the Rams inside linebackers graded out poor to below average last season. So drafting Jones to fix this was a priority for the team. Setting his odds up to succeed and at a middle linebacker position known to produce at a very high level.
#2 Standing Odds In 2021 Redrafts
Projecting Washington Jamin Davis as a day one starter did at first land him at number one. This second time he did not fall in the rookie IDP rankings because of reports. He got passed by Jones based on the position he’ll play. Davis is the weakside linebacker for the defense. The position is productive. It’s just not as productive as Jones’ position in the Rams defense.
If Davis can prove he is the next version of a young Thomas Davis, like the team has mentioned, he could have the same ceiling. Historically, the odds aren’t there for Davis as the WLB if he is in coverage a lot. Can he be the next Colt’s Darius Leonard at the WLB. Sure, he has about the same odds that Jones has to become the next Bobby Wagner. We just think that Jones has less resistance at his position on the field as a Ram.
#3 Standing Odds In 2021 Redrafts
Dallas took the best linebacker off the board in the first round this year. The Cowboys picked Micah Parsons’s 12th and they didn’t shock a lot of fans when they did. They didn’t get the high caliber play they needed from the position last year. So why not shake things up a bit.
A long story short, Parsons’s role unclear right now, but we’re confident he’ll end up being on the field. Dallas has a lot of high draft stock players wrapped up in the linebacker group too. There was a recent report detailing the Cowboys also like him as an edge rusher. Hold on IDP redraft fans, it’s going to be a bumpy ride where and when we draft him in redrafts. It will be simple if someone gets hurt or traded off that squad Parsons’s odds will double down.
#4 Standing Odds In 2021 Redrafts
Cardinals Zaven Collins ranked fourth the first time around too. The main reason was the fact that Jordan Hicks and Isahal Simmons were already on the team. That hurt Collins’ first round draft stock and odds of producing. Since then reports surfaced the Cardinals intend to play Collins over Hicks in 2021. This was then followed by reports Hicks asked to seek a trade. All together it sets Collins’s odds up higher than before. The only concern is having Simmons and Budda Baker on the squad too. They’ll both take a big piece of the IDP pie in each contest.
#5 Standing Odds In 2021 Redrafts
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of the Browns stays at fifth this time around. Cleveland drafted J.O.K. high enough and he profiles to play the WLB in Cleveland. There hasn’t been any change in his situation this offseason. At least other than landing on the NFL’s Covid list lately. So why then isn’t he higher on this list? Simple, J.O.K. has the best odds of beating this reranking. I’ll add that his tackle ceiling appears limited at this point and he’ll need to break the mold. It comes down to the Browns scheming of the WLB position and turning J.O.K. loose this year.
Looking for More Rookie ILBs?
If they aren’t on this list they aren’t under consideration because we don’t see them making an impact in redraft leagues this year. Those other ILBs like Bolton, Brown, and Werner would need some new reports to come out in their favor, something big enough to change their current status and raise the odds.
