Jaguar Chad Muma
Jaguar Linebacker Chad Muma: 37th IDP Off the Board / Selected 70th Overall
” Shows up at the LOS with bad intentions. Aggressive in his pursuit of the ball”
– Gridiron Ratings 2022 Rookie NFL Draft Guide
The Jaguars selected an outstanding Linebacker prospect in Chad Muma. As a converted Safety, Muma played at a dominant level in his senior season at Wyoming. Interestingly, the Jaguars drafted Muma after spending big money in free agency with the addition of Foyesade Oluokun and using a 1st round pick to select Linebacker, Devin Lloyd. With Oluokun and Lloyd projected as starters in the team’s 3-4 scheme, it will be hard for Muma to see meaningful snaps in his rookie season. Muma will contribute mainly on special teams unless he beats out Lloyd in training camp for starting duties.
The landing spot isn’t ideal for his fantasy prospects in year 1. At this moment he’s a lot more appealing from a Dynasty perspective. Jaguars GM Trent Baalke advised the media that Muma has “MIKE” LB traits. The team was very impressed with his ability to make the calls for the defense in college. Muma is obviously in their long-term plans as the team views him as their “MIKE” LB of the future. It’s important to note that Oluokun has an out in his contract in 2024. Muma is looking like the one-for-one replacement for Oluokun. IDP managers should stash him on their taxi squads. The 2024 season looks like his most realistic opportunity for a fantasy breakout.
Dynasty and Redraft Evaluations
Muma is much more desirable as a Dynasty asset. He doesn’t project to have much fantasy value in the immediate future, however, his upside remains high. Owners who are willing to stash him and wait could be rewarded with a potential top-five LB.
In redraft leagues, he’ll have little to no fantasy value. He’s not projected to play a significant role in his rookie season.
