Week 1 / Inside Linebackers

All the charts are only available for free for the first three weeks of the season. We hope you consider joining the G.R. family.

AFC NORTH

 Ravens Inside Linebackers

Patrick Queen
2.5/5
Malik Harrison
2.5/5
L.J. Fort
0.5/5
Chris Board
0.5/5

Advice/Note: Let’s face it, on paper, this is a pretty strong matchup for the ILBs. But we have two unknowns and the fact they are rookies and how they’ll be deployed is up in the air. It is a real risk versus reward situation heading into week one.

Bengals Inside Linebackers

Germaine Pratt
2.5/5
Logan Wilson
2/5
Josh Bynes
2/5
Jordan Evans
1/5

Advice/Note: It is just another one of those situations where IDP owners will be applying a risk factor week one by inserting one of these ILBs. On paper, the matchup isn’t really solid enough to designate it as such. And we have to assume Pratt has the upper hand to be safe.

 Browns Inside Linebackers

Sione Takitaki
2/5
Jacob Phillips
2/5
B.J. Goodson
2/5
Mack Wilson (O)
0/5

Advice/Note: Let’s face it, on paper, this is a pretty strong matchup for the ILBs. But we have two unknowns and the fact they are rookies and how they’ll be deployed is up in the air. It is a real risk versus reward situation heading into week one.

Steelers Inside Linebackers

Devin Bush
5/5
Vince Williams
2.5/5
Robert Spillane
0.5/5
Ulysses Gilbert
0.5/5

Advice/Note: The Stars are all aligned for Bush week one on paper. And one would think that it’s such a strong matchup on paper that it would be for Williams as well. But the history of inconsistency with Williams on a week to week basis suggests otherwise.

AFC south

Texans Inside Linebackers

Zach Cunningham
0/5
Benardrick McKinney
0/5
Dylan Cole
0/5
Tyrell Adams
0/5

Advice/Note: Played Thursday and/or the matchup is located on the Thursday Edition of chart.

Colts Inside Linebackers

Darius Leonard
5/5
Anthony Walker
3/5
Bobby Okereke
2/5
E.J. Speed
0.5/5

Advice/Note: The Colt’s ILB unit enters the season as the status quo. Just know that Okereke could start cutting into Walker’s production heading into his second season.

 Jaquars Inside Linebackers

Joe Schobert
3.5/5
Myles Jack
3.5/5
Leon Jacobs
2/5
Quincy Williams (?)
0.5/5

Advice/Note: Schobert and Jack can both out produce their designations this first contest. On paper, it is really solid, but the upside considering the situation indicates it’ll be strong.

Titans Inside Linebackers

Jayon Brown
3/5
Rashaan Evans
3/5
Nigel Harris
0.5/5
David Long
0.5/5

Advice/Note: As marked, on paper, the Broncos are middling to allowing points to the ILBs and we should assume this is the case this contest. So both Brown and Evans should live up to their average solid performance.

AFC East

 Bills Inside Linebackers

Tremaine Edmunds
3/5
Matt Milano
2.5/5
A.J. Klein
1.5/5
Tyler Matakevich
0.5/5

Advice/Note: We need to mention that it is the fact this is a divisional contest that secures Edmunds and Milano in at solid. Overall the Jets weren’t that kind to the ILBs last season and those two players might have to work a bit harder this contest to get the job done. And we’ll wait to see on the new addition Klein and his role within the defense before we go there.

Dolphins Inside Linebackers

Jerome Baker
2.5/5
Kamu Grugier-Hill
1.5/5
Kyle Van Noy
1.5/5
Elandon Roberts
1/5

Advice/Note: It is this author’s recommendation that IDP owners avoid the Miami ILBs versus the Patriots in week one. Roles are not 100% defined yet and even with Baker it’s hard to suggest trusting the situation versus a team that has a knack for separating and eliminating the ILBs from the pack.

 Patriots Inside Linebackers

Ja'Whaun Bentley
2/5
Cassh Maluia
1.5/5
Anfernee Jennings
1.5/5
Josh Uche
0.5/5

Advice/Note: If there is any uncertainty among the IDP community it is the patriot defensive players. And that certainly comes into play early this season with a totally revamped ILB squad. Who lines up where and who gets the lion’s share of the rotation has always been an issue in the past and we’ll suggest avoiding the situation now, even Bently.

Jets Inside Linebackers

Avery Williamson
2.5/5
Patrich Onwuarsor (O)
0/5
Blake Cashman
2/5
Neville Hewitt
2/5

Advice/Note: Players opting out, injuries and confusion. And even returning proven stud Williamson recently spent time with the second team defense in practice. Although one has to think it was just to evaluate the depth players who will see playing time again this season. On paper the matchup is really strong versus the Bills, in theory not so much in week one.

AFC west

 Broncos Inside Linebackers

Alexander Johnson
3/5
Josey Jewell
2.5/5
Joe Jones
1.5/5
Mark Barron
1/5

Advice/Note: Shocker, Todd Davis was just recently cut! Would have to guess the money is on Jewell to step up in his place, but at this point all bets are off the table for week one if your playing it safe.

Chiefs Inside Linebackers

Anthoney Hitchens
0/5
Willie Gay
0/5
Damien Wilson
0/5
Ben Niemann
0/5

Advice/Note: Played Thursday and/or the matchup is located on the Thursday Edition of chart.

Chargers Inside Linebackers

Kenneth Murry
2.5/5
Drue Tranquill
2.5/5
Kyzir White
1.5/5
Denzel Perryman
1/5

Advice/Note: It’ll be risky to depend on any one of these players week one. “Reports” are in favor of Murry and Tranquill seeing a lot of time and the matchup is right versus the Bengals. But frankly, we just don’t know who will be a lock for an every-down role to start the season.

Raiders Inside Linebackers

Cory Littleton
3.5/5
Nick Kwiatkoski
3.5/5
Raekwon McMillan
1/5
Javon White
1/5

Advice/note: Simple, Littleton and Kwiatkoski are going to be busy versus Carolina. And if it wasn’t for the Panthers new coaching staff, both would be stronger plays.

Fantasy Football Linebacker WK1

NFC North

Bears Inside Linebackers

Roquan Smith
4.5/5
Danny Trevathan
3/5
Joel Iyiegbuniwe
1/5
Josh Woods
1/5

Advice/Note: The matchups perfect to deploy them as we want.

Lions Inside Linebackers

Jamie Collins
4/5
Jarrad Davis
2/5
Christian Jones
2/5
Jahiani Tavai
2/5

Advice/Note: The only name here to look at week one versus the Bears is Collins. The situation with the rest holds too many questions on the role and playing time to go here so early in the season. And pending Collins’s role, we may see him on the Edge Rushers chart soon.

Packers Inside Linebackers

Christian Kirksey
4/5
Oren Burks
1.5/5
Ty Summers
1.5/5
Kamal Martin (O)
0/5

Advice/Note: Please see the Lions note, same applies here just swap out Kirksey for Collins, but just know the Packers matchup versus the Vikings isn’t nearly as appealing on paper for the ILBs as it is for Collins and the Lions matchup.

Vikings Inside Linebackers

Eric Kendricks
3/5
Anthony Barr
2/5
Troy Dye
1.5/5
Eric Wilson
1/5

Advice/Note: Simply said, the Packers came in dead last in allowing points to the ILBs overall in 2019. As it is MLB Kendricks will get his fair share, but there isn’t any upside on paper this contest

NFC south

Falcons Inside Linebackers

Deion Jones
4/5
Foyesade Oluokun
3/5
Mykal Walker
2/5
Deone Bucannon
1/5

Advice/Note: Any given player on this list could outperform his designation. Let’s just say that the Seahawks traditionally are very kind to the ILBs.

Panthers Inside Linebackers

Shaq Thompson (?)
3.5/5
Tahir Whitehead
2.5/5
Jermaine Carter
1.5/5
Jeremy Chinn
1.5/5

Advice/Note: The matchup is in the middle of the pack versus the Raiders on paper. Our best option is Thompson and while we play the “wait and see” game on Whitehead’s role, he may not be on the field every down unless Thompson can’t get back to practicing. And we’ll add the rookie Chinn in here as well as the safety chart for now. He just may the guy how replaces Whitehead as the nickel backer on third-down situations.

Saints Inside Linebackers

Demario Davis
4.5/5
Kiko Alonso (0)
0/5
Alex Anzalone
2.5/5
Zack Baun
1.5/5

Advice/Note: With Alonso hitting the PUP list, it clears thing up some on who is likely going to be on the field. But we still haven’t seen the roles of each player and likely shouldn’t go anywhere except for Davis.

Buccaneers Inside Linebackers

Lavonte David
3/5
Devin White
3/5
Kevin Minter
1/5
Jack Cichy
0.5/5

Advice/Note: This is certainly one of those examples that we don’t sit a stud week one. On paper, the Saints are not generous to the ILBs but David and White are studs and shouldn’t be anywhere near your bench unless you own higher ranked players with stronger matchups.

NFC East

Cowboys Inside Linebackers

Jaylon Smith
3.5/5
Leighton Vander Esch
3.5/5
Sean Lee (IR)
0/5
Justin March
0.5/5

Advice/Notes: Again, don’t sit a stud, but on paper Smith and Vander Esh will need to earn their production this contest versus the Rams. And don’t be shocked if one or both outperform their designation. And rumor is that Lee could start the season on I.R., likely putting Thomas in play.

Giants Inside Linebackers

Blake Martinez (?)
3/5
Devante Downs
1/5
Tae Crowder
1.5/5
TJ Brunson
1/5
David Mayo (IR)
0/5

Advice/Note: Martinez is the only one right now we could trust, problem is as of the latest he is still looking questionable. Downs looks like next man up with Mayo on I.R., but to be safe, don’t go there week one unless your desperate and Martinez ends up being out.

Eagles Inside Linebackers

Nathan Gerry
2.5/5
T.J. Edwards
2/5
Davion Taylor
1/5
Duke Riley
1/5
Alex Singleton
1/5

Advice/Note: … is a disclaimer, considering the situation and history of the way the Eagles use their ILBs. If you go here you’re on your own week one versus Team Washington.

Washington’s Inside Linebackers

Thomas Davis
1.5/5
Kevin Pierre-Louis
1.5/5
Jon Bostic
1.5/5
Shaun Dion Hamilton
1/5
Cole Holcomb
1/5
Reuben Foster (IR)
0/5

Advice/Note: The entire situation is an avoid week one with no clarity on roles and reportedly a large rotation to start the season among the ILBs. Keep an eye on Kevin Pierre-Louis, as a writer that has hit on him before, he has talent. And the new coaching staff in Washington has given him a clean slate from his troubled past and lack of opportunities to earn a starting gig.

NFC West

Cardinals Inside Linebackers

Jordan Hicks
3/5
De'Vondre Campbell
2/5
Isaiah Simmons
2/5
Tanner Vallejo
0.5/5

Advice/Note: Don’t trust the situation between who plays more, Campbell, or the rookie Simmons in week one. And one has to wonder if Simmons is the beast we think he is, does he actually cut into Hick’s playing time down the road too?

Rams Inside Linebackers

Kenny Young
2/5
Micah Kiser
2/5
Troy Reeder
1.5/5
Justin Hollins
1/5

Advice/Note: This is almost a depth chart by default situation. And no matter how Kenny Young got here, keep your eye on him. Best way to approach this is to avoid it week one.

49ers Inside Linebackers

Fred Warner (C)
3/5
Dre Greenlaw
2.5/5
Kwon Alexander
2.5/5
Azeez Al-Shaair
0.5/5

Advice/Note: In the overall scheme of things we have two basic ways to look at this with Warner still on the COVID list as of Sept. 6th. If he comes off the list and is reportedly healthy, insert him and forget Greenlaw and Alexander. We need a sample of those two guys roles week one with Warner in the mix to be safe. The other scenario is if Warner is out, and you really need too, Greenlaw and Alexander bot beome solid plays versus the Cardinals. Just know that on paper there isn’t a huge amount of upside past solid.

Seahawks Inside Linebackers

Bobby Wagner
5/5
K.J. Wright
3/5
Jordyn Brooks
1.5/5
Cody Barton
1/5

Advice/Note: We know that the rookie Brooks has worked with the first-team defense. And we know of the reports that Wright has run drills with the edge rushers. But the odds that Pete Carroll favors Brooks over Wright at the WLB position week one is so slim that it’s unlikely to happen. So there is a touch of risk with playing Wright, but the odds are in his favor.
