IDP Dime Drop Status…

Giants second year inside linebacker Tae Davis should be considered more than just a flier at this point. We have mentioned him in prior IDP Dime Drops (Giants Youth Movement) and in passing in 2018. It is at this time that it is confirmed in reports from Giants camp he has passed B.J. Goodson on the depth chart. Not only as he did last season as the nicklebacker, but now as an every down player inside next to an aging Alec Ogletree.

This former safety converted to linebacker his senior season at at Tennessee-Chattanooga was undrafted in 2018. Originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Giants on May 10, 2018. He received around 31% of the snaps last season on defense. As well as found him self gaining moment with the organization towards the end of the season. He ended the season with a 91 PAPS grade which was just about average. But in his defense and in his limited role as a coverage player the tackle opportunities weren’t there.

IDP Dime Drop Ceiling And Floor

Davis is currently listed as the $ backer in the Giants 2019 defensive scheme. If he maintains this status and is a every-down player his floor is likely a solid LB2. And would be at the least comparable to the Bears WILB Danny Trevathan. But unlike Danny with the Bears who plays next to a very young stud inside, Tae’s ceiling is much higher. Because Ogletree has seemed to of lost a step in recent years Tae could easly see a ceiling as a low LB1 as the season unfolds.

IDP Dime Drop Conclusion

With Davis current situation and the status of his role with first team defense he shouldn’t be sitting on the waiver wire in deeper leagues at this time. And in standard leagues he should be seen as a potential first guy off the bench for bye weeks and injuries. There is still a lot of preseason left. But his upside has surpassed a sleeper and flier status at this point. If we are sitting on extra cornerbacks or defensive lineman that can be had as dime a dozen off the waiver wire, this young man should promptly replace them.
