Attention, Please! As mentioned in the examples real in-depth Advice/Notes are an option when they are needed. And considering that the Edge Rushers opposition in the NFL, for the most part, is stable, users will start noticing that those notes and such will start diminishing as we go.

Week 3 / AFC Safeties

Reminder, this is the last week the IDP Tactical Tools like the Start/Sit Charts will be free to non-members. we hope you decide to join us as the up to date data is just now about to peek as those so important fantasy football bye-weeks are about to start.

AFC NORTH

 Ravens Safeties

Chuck Clark
2.5/5
DeShon Elliott
2.5/5
Anthony Levine Sr.
1/5
Geno Stone
0.5/5

Advice/Note: Solid as marked, noting this is a firm group and the secondary remains busy in the scheme. Versus the Chiefs on paper, it’s a safe play.

Bengals Safeties

Jessie Bates
3/5
Von Bell
3/5
Shawn Williams (?)
2/5
Brandon Wilson
0.5/5

Advice/Note: The only reseason Bates and Bell aren’t marked higher is the threat of Williams returning this week versus the Eagles. On paper, this matchup is borderline strong for the safeties.

 Browns Safeties

Karl Joseph
3/5
Andrew Sendejo
2.5/5
Ronnie Harrison Jr.
1.5/5
Sheldrick Redwine
0.5/5

Advice/Note: On paper, this matchup is a bit stronger for the strong safety position than marked. But last contest Harrison relieved Joseph on the field, not Sendejo. Should Joseph owners be worried, only the next couple of weeks will tell. For now, if we own him it’ll be tough not to take the risk that Harrison just remains the third safety in the slight rotation.

Steelers Safeties

Terrell Edmunds
3/5
Minkah Fitzpatrick
2.5/5
Sean Davis
1/5
Jordan Dangerfield
0.5/5

Advice/Note: As marked versus the Texans this contest. Noting that Edmunds did take a very small dip in snaps week two, but still above 90%.

AFC south

Texans Safeties

Justin Reid
2.5/5
Eric Murray
2.5/5
A.J. Moore
1/5
Michael Thomas
0.5/5

Advice/Note: Reid overachieved a bit last contest and his owners would like to think we see it again versus the Steelers this contest. But he hasn’t exactly been consistent in his career and normally just gets what the formula indicates is there. Who may have upside this contest is Murry as long as Big Ben keeps slinging the ball downfield.

Colts Safeties

Khari Willis
2/5
Julian Blackmon (?)
1/5
Tavon Wilson
1/5
George Odum
0.5/5
Malik Hooker (IR)
0/5

Advice/Note: First, on paper, this is not an appealing matchup at all versus the Jets this week. Sure someone will produce, but it is that weak that any upside got them where they are marked. Second, oddly enough when Hooker went down last contest it was Blackmon who took his place in the lineup. And reportedly faired well. Since this matchup is weak, we suggest giving the guys a week off if you can, and let’s see if Blackmon sticks over the veteran Wilson and last year’s Hooker replacement at times, Odum.

 Jaquars Safeties

Josh Jones
0/5
Andrew Wingard
0/5
Daniel Thomas
0/5
Jarrod Wilson (IR)
0/5

Advice/Note: Played Thursday and/or the matchup is located on the Thursday Edition of chart.

Titans Safeties

Kenny Vaccaro (Q)
2.5/5
Kevin Byard
2.5/5
Amani Hooker
2/5
Joshua Kalu
0.5/5

Advice/Note: This is a matchup that has “catch 22” written all over it. On paper, it’s weak versus the Vikings, but we have to consider the players involved and their roles within the scheme. And as we can see from the last contest that stud byard is far from matchup proof. These players owners may want to consider other avenues if they are available this week. And we have eyes on the rookie Hooker. The secondary is beaten up and he stepped up nicely last contest. Could he carve out a starting role? Well, his skillset suggests it’s possible if things go right, but it might not be as a true safety and more of a slot guy. Only time will tell.

AFC East

 Bills Safeties

Jordan Poyer
3.5/5
Micah Hyde
3/5
Dean Marlowe
1/5
Jaquan Johnson
0.5/5

Advice/Note: We’re going as mark via the results of the formula. Noting that Hyde overachieved last week with both starting ILBs out. Reportedly Milano is trending to play, but Edmunds was still in a no-contact jersey. If either is out, hyde has a little more upside versus the Rams.

Dolphins Safeties

Bobby McCain
0/5
Eric Rowe
0/5
Brandon Jones
0/5
Reshad Jones (Q)
0/5

Advice/Note: Played Thursday and/or the matchup is located on the Thursday Edition of chart.

 Patriots Safeties

Devin McCourty
2.5/5
Adrian Phillips
2.5/5
Kyle Dugger (?)
2/5
Terrence Brooks
1/5

Advice/Note: IDP owners have to love the Patriots IDP players, and we do mean this jokingly. So far McCourty is the every-down guy, which isn’t shocking. Adrian Phillips went from 70% in week one to 78% in week two but came back down to earth in production. And the rookie Dugger surpassed week one’s third safety Brooks by a large margin in playing time in week two. Jumping from 19% to 54%. So we’ll make sure anyone new to IDP understands something about the Patriots defense. They are the only defense in the NFL that base their defensive scheme of the week off of the opposing team. And with that, each player’s role for the week can change as well in terms of responsibilities. It has been this way for a very long time and certainly doesn’t look like it’ll change. So for this reason, unless we see a reason to change, know that we are always going to side with caution in the formula results on paper.

Jets Safeties

Marcus Maye
3/5
Bradley McDougald
3/5
Ashtyn Davis
1/5
Matthias Farley
0.5/5

Advice/Note: As marked on paper versus the Colts and there will always be upside because of the Jets front seven being as lackluster as it gets.

AFC west

 Broncos Safeties

Justin Simmons
4.5/5
Kareem Jackson
4/5
Trey Marshall (?)
1/5
P.J. Locke
0.5/5

Advice/Note: As stated in the last week’s notes, Simmons bounced back big in week two. And Jackson came back down to earth. We should expect this from time to time, it’ll be tough for both to overachieve in the same contests. But as long as they get what the paper results suggest we’ll be fine using them as indicated. Keep this in mind versus the Bucs in week three. Because the formula indicates that Simmons has the advantage in this contest, but both are strong to produce.

Chiefs Safeties

Tyrann Mathieu
3/5
Daniel Sorensen
1.5/5
Juan Thornhill
1.5/5
Tedric Thompson
0.5/5

Advice/Note: Lat week we mentioned the timeshare for Thornhill and Sorenson, with Sorenson getting the larger portion. And of course, that flipped in week two with Thornhill seeing 100% of the snaps and Sorenson seeing 70%. And this is normally an on-going issue with the Chief’s second and third safety carried over since Andy Reid become the Chiefs head coach. With that being said all of them underperformed last contest, including Mathieu. That is a rare event for Mathieu, so he remains our main trustworthy target in this squad versus the Ravens this week.

Chargers Safeties

Nasir Adderley
2.5/5
Rayshawn Jenkins (?)
2.5/5
Desmond King II
2.5/5
Alohi Gilman
0.5/5

Advice/Note: Best we can do is give week two snap counts at this moment. Jenkins got hurt and went for 44% of the snaps. King was the highest producer in IDP but only saw 57% of the snaps. And Adderley was a 99% guy but did very little with that amount of snaps. Granted it wasn’t the best matchup on paper, to begin with, and why we marked them all with 2 stars last week. But the snaps just add even more uncertainty for week three versus the Panthers. And it’s too bad, because on paper, the Panthers are a real strong contest for this group. It’s so strong we’ll give them a bump, but we’ll leave it to the owner to decide if they need to go here this contest with the risk of it all. The best case scenario may be to hear that jenkins won’t play. But that is far from locking down either of the other two guys.

Raiders Safeties

Johnathan Abram
3.5/5
Erik Harris
2.5/5
Jeff Heath
1/5
Dallin Leavitt
0.5/5

Advice/Note: They didn’t exactly take full advantage of the solid contest last week versus the Saints, but that was likely due to the game flow with the Raiders showing power over the Saints on offense. And at least we have some clarity so far on who is getting to play, something we’ve not had for the last few seasons. On paper versus the Patriots, Abram will have a great game, and Harris should hit his mark, even at the deep free safety spot.
