Welcome to the Fantasy Football Ranking WK7 AFC Edge Rusher IDP Start/Sit Chart cheat sheets presented by GridironRatings.com Where the only original and proven IDP start/sit chart “cheat sheets” via The IDP Tipster can be found. And yes, there are a few imitators, but there is only one true original five-step formula IDP tactical tool. A formula with a well-tested history for over a decade and a proven high-hit rate in IDP play well before sharing it with the public four years ago. And all of that history and relevancy is only available here for G.R. fantasy football family members.

Individual Defensive Players

Fantasy Football Ranking WK7 Edge Rusher

Needing to split those IDP hairs between two or more players with the same color code? Besides our great Player Ratings located in the main menu, our Oddsmakers IDP tactical tools were originally intended to do just that. And they are located on our The IDP Tipster member page or perhaps even on our main article page.

Disclaimer: We do not suggest “reaching” for higher designated players over available known studs!

Fantasy Football Ranking WK7

* The Fantasy Football WK1 Rankings Edge Rusher Chart would traditionally contain just the 3-4 outside linebackers and 4-3 defensive ends from the NFL’s two-base defensive schemes. But at times, for whatever reason, some of the main sites list some 3-4 defensive end. Not to mention some strongside linebackers from the 4-3 scheme. And one of those main sites that have been engaging IDP owners for quite a few years with the designated Edge Rusher position as an option is ESPN.COM.

So although this author doesn’t personally consider those 3-4 defensive ends a part of the true Edge Rushers, we will set these charts by whom they list as such. Because even if the position has been around for some time, on a few sites. It’s still in the process of gaining traction by IDP owners. And there still needs to be a baseline set somehow. So what better way to do it than with the old school, and one of the originals, but ESPN.

Note, this listing of ESPN Edge Rushers may not reflect this author’s Edge Rushers rankings or the Gridiron Rating player ratings. But until it is a full-fledge position used across the board and a player standard is set. We can’t ignore what the users of the charts and IDP owners may have access too. We’ll also mention that the Edge Rusher formula for these charts adds at least one additional step over the traditional five.

And they recently traded with the Vikings for Ngakoue. This group just wasn’t getting it done and we are really interested to see how Ngakoue does a full-time “standby” OLB in this blitz-happy system.

Bengals Edge Rushers

Carl Lawson
2/5
Carlos Dunlap
1.5/5
Khalid Kareem
1/5
Sam Hubbard (IR)
0/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Dunlap did not end up returning to a starting role last contest and we hope owners listened to us when we marked them all “barely”, as they got nothing versus the Colts. So what did we see happen?

Hot pickup Lawson got 68% of the snaps and did not overachieve versus a nice O-line, not even near it. And the Bengals choose to actually start three designated DT’s over either listed defensive end in Dunlap (44%) and Kareem (40%). With that said, roll with what we marked via the on-paper results versus the Browns. Who are a bit stingy off the edge. One more thing, Lawson owners really should consider looking elsewhere until we see what he has as a full-time player at this point. Maybe he’ll show up this week and we’ll not say this next contest because again, the Browns are stingy off the edge.

 Browns Edge Rushers

Myles Garrett
4.5/5
Olivier Vernon
2.5/5
Adrian Clayborn
1.5/5
Porter Gustin
1/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Well what do you know, everyone is healthy and gave us an indication of what to expect versus the Bengals this week.

We still have personal trust issues with Vernon, but if there is a contest working in his favor, it’s this one. Just understand, his highest recorded game this year versus a couple of other decent matchups has been 3 combined tackles and a fumble recovery versus the Cowboys. So our call is 3 combined and barely “just” solid with upside, we guess. 🙂

Brennan Scarlett
1/5
Jacob Martin
1/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: It was great to see Watt live up to the matchup on paper and with the upside we mentioned would be there. But this week versus the Packers he goes right back to what he had been doing, and that’s not much. We’ll need to see a real breakout versus an opponent like the Packers a few contest in a row to really jump back on that bandwagon.

We also found it interesting in a very favorable matchup that with 53% of the snaps (lowish), Mercuilus did nothing. But with the same amount of snaps, Scarlett did. Something to keep an eye on, but likely just a fluke for Scarlett and still something to worry about with Mercuilus.

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Great matchup on paper versus the Chargers this week. And it all boils down to consistency and trust in the marks. It’s simple, we got to see it to advise it as full strength via the five-step formula.

Titans Edge Rushers

Harold Landry III
3/5
Jadeveon Clowney
1.5/5
Vic Beasley, Jr.
0.5/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Simple enough, Landry is that only guy here that has got just over par in all contest but one he played in this season. And with a “barely” on paper result versus the Steelers, he is the only one we would consider his upside as something we can trust.

 Patriots Edge Rushers

John Simon
3/5
Chase Winovich
1.5/5
Shilique Calhoun
1/5
Anfernee Jennings
1/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Why is Winovich “just” solid? Well according to reports he only saw 34% of the snaps because of the patriots defensive scheming versus the Broncos. And when on paper the matchup this week mirrors that one from last week, we have to assume we need to use caution. It’s just another case for why there are always Patriot defenders on the waiver wire. They just scheme so much towards opponents so much that inconsistency is a mainstay in the majority of the positions more often than we can handle.

As for Simon, this matchup for him is really on the stronger side as they gave him those extra snaps because he is a bigger body. His history with the team is there, and we trust his role in this contest. He got 80% of the snaps last contest, we feel better about that. But no one could blame anyone for just avoiding it altogether if they have other options. And is a strong reason you likely won’t see any Patriot D-lineman in the waiver wire article we do.

Jets Edge Rushers

Jordan Jenkins
1.5/5
Tarell Basham
1/5
Kyle Phillips
1/5
John Franklin-Myers (?)
1/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Wow! A couple of these guys actually fell into some production last contest. That’s all we got to say, versus the Bills it’s an avoid still and will be for the foreseeable future. Or at least until something breaks.

AFC west

 Broncos Edge Rushers

Bradley Chubb
2.5/5
Malik Reed
2/5
Jeremiah Attaochu (0)

Chargers Edge Rushers

Joey Bosa (?)
2.5/5
Melvin Ingram (IR/?)
2/5
Uchenna Nwosu
1/5
Isaac Rochell
0.5/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Can’t believe I’m going to write this in again. Please go read the Bronco’s notes and apply here versus the Jaguars. Ingram may or may not be taken off the I.R this Saturday, but considering the situation, it likely won’t matter as we shouldn’t trust it his first game back.

Raiders Edge Rushers

Maxx Crosby
2.5/5
Clelin Ferrell
1.5/5
Carl Nassib
1/5
Arden Key
0.5/5

See New Chart Key Above -Advice/Note: Wow, finally a squad in this division worth looking at this week. It’s too bad that Crosby’s consistency “average” is just average this year. Or versus the Buccaneers, we could have added some upside to this matchup on paper. He is averaging just two combined tackles a contest and less than one sack a contest overall. That’s just not reliable enough to go any higher here on his mark. because at some point that sack won’t be there. The odds of football life just aren’t in his favor.
