Fantasy Football Ranking WK5
* The Fantasy Football WK1 Rankings Edge Rusher Chart would traditionally contain just the 3-4 outside linebackers and 4-3 defensive ends from the NFL’s two-base defensive schemes. But at times, for whatever reason, some of the main sites list some 3-4 defensive end. Not to mention some strongside linebackers from the 4-3 scheme. And one of those main sites that have been engaging IDP owners for quite a few years with the designated Edge Rusher position as an option is ESPN.COM.
So although this author doesn’t personally consider those 3-4 defensive ends a part of the true Edge Rushers, we will set these charts by whom they list as such. Because even if the position has been around for some time, on a few sites. It’s still in the process of gaining traction by IDP owners. And there still needs to be a baseline set somehow. So what better way to do it than with the old school, and one of the originals, but ESPN.
Note, this listing of ESPN Edge Rushers may not reflect this author’s Edge Rushers rankings or the Gridiron Rating player ratings. But until it is a full-fledge position used across the board and a player standard is set. We can’t ignore what the users of the charts and IDP owners may have access too. We’ll also mention that the Edge Rusher formula for these charts adds at least one additional step over the traditional five.

Ravens Edge Rushers
Matthew Judon
☆☆☆☆☆ 4/5
Tyus Bowser
☆☆☆☆☆ 4/5
Pernell McPhee
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Jaylon Ferguson
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: Stable situation, great on-paper matchup results, these guys are the next men up to enjoy a productive day versus the Bengals. And the only reason they are not marked strong is the fact that at least one time this year they didn’t get it done. But the Bengals give them that upside to feeling warm and fuzzy about inserting these two and they get the job done to their particular talent level as individuals.
Bengals Edge Rushers
Sam Hubbard
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Carl Lawson
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Carlos Dunlap
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Khalid Kareem
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: There are a couple of reasons we have them marked as they are this contest versus the Ravens. The first is that the Ravens are on paper in the bottom third of the league allowing points to the edge rushers. Another thing is as consistent as Hubbards been and explosive Lawson is, the overall view is they only average getting what the match up offers. And we have that recent news that we have been hitting on for weeks here in the charts.
Dunlap came out and said he isn’t going to be the starter anymore, it is Lawson. Which this could mean a few things, from snap counts being divided up in a more even way. To the fact that does more playing time for Lawson mean, he’ll wear down as the game goes on. Don’t take this wrong, but on average for the entire season, he has just average a little above half of the snaps available. That puts him in rotation with fresh legs more often than not.
We advise as long as we have other options we use this weakish contest and see what’s in store for us going forward. Which could actually take a few contests to figure out depending who plays where now and who gets what off the top.
Browns Edge Rushers
Myles Garrett
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Olivier Vernon
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Porter Gustin
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Joe Jackson
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Adrian Clayborn (?)
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: Our focus should only be on the stud Garrettthis contest. The matchup on paper isn’t near where we want it to be versus the Colt’s O-lineman, and only Garrett’s own upside has him bumped up where he is on the chart. And if anyone can out produce these results, it’s him.
Steelers Edge Rushers
T.J. Watt
☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5
Bud Dupree
☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5
Alex Highsmith
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Olasunkanmi Adeniyi
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: Perfect, rested with last week off, and the Eagles allow the best on-paper result this week so far.

Texans Edge Rushers
J.J. Watt
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Whitney Mercilus
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Brennan Scarlett
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Jacob Martin
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: Not exactly what we want from edge rushers, but they have set the pace at what it is and is stable there. And versus the Jaguars we’re going as the results indicate.
Colts Edge Rushers
Justin Houston (?)
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Tyquan Lewis
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Ben Naugo
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Al-Quadin Muhammad
☆☆☆☆☆ 0.5/5
Kemoko Turay (O)
☆☆☆☆☆ 0/5
Advice/Note: It’s a pretty stable group and Houston has an upside versus the Browns that is included in the on-paper results. Just know this, he’ll need to really work hard this time around to keep it.
Jaquars Edge Rushers
Josh Allen (?)
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Cassius Marsh
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
K’Lavon Chaisson
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Dawuane Smoot
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Advice/Note: Allen is 50/50 according to the most recent reports. And the rest of the crew can not be banked on in a just solid contest on paper.
Titans Edge Rushers
Harold Landry III
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Jadeveon Clowney
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Vic Beasley, Jr.
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Kamalei Correa
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: If they play, the Bills are bottom five versus the edge rushers, so the Titans edge rusher will really need to overachieve here to make an impact.
AFC East
Bills Edge Rushers
Mario Addison (?)
☆☆☆☆☆ 3/5
Jerry Hughes
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Trent Murphy
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
A.J. Epenesa
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Darryl Johnson
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: On paper versus the Titans we should be excited, but we are not when we figure in what this group has done overall this year. If anyone had an upside, if we could even add it, it would be Addison. And be careful with Hughes because just because the Titans are a top-five matchup for edge rushers right now, it doesn’t mean he’ll get what should be there.
Dolphins Edge Rushers
Kyle Van Noy
☆☆☆☆☆ 4.5/5
Emmanuel Ogbah
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Andrew Van Ginkel
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Shaq Lawson (O)
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: Simple, Van Noy, and we are given Ogbah the benefit of the doubt with Lawson out of the way. And the matchup simply is that strong on paper versus the 49ers. We can’t go there with anyone else because Van Ginkel actually dropped in snap counts last contest.
Patriots Edge Rushers
Chase Winovich
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
John Simon
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Shilique Calhoun
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Anfernee Jennings
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: Winovich has earned the edge over Simon. But we have to understand that the Broncos just aren’t that friendly to the edge rushers so there is only so much upside we can give him in this contest.
Jets Edge Rushers
Jordan Jenkins (?)
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Tarell Basham
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Kyle Phillips
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Jordan Willis
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: Normal, nothing to see here, and really nothing to see here versus the Cardinals with this squad. It’s almost like any production would be an accident with these guys.
AFC west
Broncos Edge Rushers
Bradley Chubb
☆☆☆☆☆ 3.5/5
Jeremiah Attaochu (?)
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Malik Reed
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Anthony Chickillo
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Advice/Note: It’s a pretty nice on paper result actually. But we need to know that other than Chubb, all snap counts will depend on Attaochu being available or not. We like what we see in Reed on film, he just needs to take over as that guy across from Chubb full time. And the reason Chubb isn’t higher is that it took a decently favorable contest versus the Jets last week to bust out.
Chiefs Edge Rushers
Frank Clark
☆☆☆☆☆ 4/5
Tanoh Kpassagnon
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Mike Danna
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Alex Okafor
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Taco Charlton
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Advice/Note: With guys like Okafor getting healthy and Taco now getting some snap, the only trustworthy play here is Clark. And he should enjoy this week’s contest versus the Raiders, at least on paper.
Chargers Edge Rushers
Joey Bosa (?)
☆☆☆☆☆ 3.5/5
Uchenna Nwosu
☆☆☆☆☆ 2/5
Isaac Rochell
☆☆☆☆☆ 0.5/5
Emeke Egbule
☆☆☆☆☆ 0/5
Advice/Note: Bosa is trending to be just fine to play this contest versus the Saints. And of course, he has his upside already included in his on paper results. It’s just a matter of capping it as he could overachieve at any given moment.
And a trend we see is Ingrams I.R. replacement Nwosu trending on the waiver wires. And he should be to a point, we just would like to see him start recording some actual sacks off the edge. He has one in week one, we need to see one against a bit harder opponent at the O-line positions.
Raiders Edge Rushers
Maxx Crosby
☆☆☆☆☆ 1.5/5
Clelin Ferrell
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Carl Nassib
☆☆☆☆☆ 1/5
Arden Key
☆☆☆☆☆ 0.5/5
Advice/Note: It’s nice to see that Crosby is getting to the quarterback finally. But it’s not going to be easy to make it three games in a row versus the Chiefs, who are bottom five in allowing that to happen. But hey, he did it versus the Bills last week, who is bottom three, so who knows.
Thing is, he got off to a slow start so we need this contest to help decide if we add upside and not able to add upside this time. He only has averaged about two total tackles a contest and now has the three sacks in two games. We just need more to trust he has it going again this year.
