Value Over Replacement (VOR)
The projected fantasy points a player produces above a freely available replacement at their position.
Category: General · Status: Active
What it measures
VOR measures positional scarcity by calculating how many fantasy points a player produces above the baseline replacement player at their position. This allows cross-position comparisons.
Inputs
- Player's projected fantasy points: Total projected PPR fantasy points for the upcoming season.
- Replacement-level threshold: Position-specific baselines: QB12, RB24, WR30, TE12.
Scale
- 100+: Elite positional advantage - among the most scarce assets at the position.
- 50 – 99: Strong positional value - well above replacement level.
- 1 – 49: Moderate value - starter-quality but replaceable in deeper leagues.
- 0 or negative: Replacement-level or below - freely available on waivers.
How to use it
- During drafts, compare VOR across positions to determine which pick creates the most positional advantage.
- A QB with 50 VOR and a WR with 50 VOR are equally valuable above replacement, despite different raw point totals.
- Use VOR to evaluate trade offers - the side gaining more cumulative VOR is getting the better deal.
Limitations
- Replacement thresholds are fixed (QB12, RB24, etc.) and may not match all league sizes.
- VOR does not account for roster construction constraints or starting lineup requirements.
- Shallow positions (TE, QB in 1QB leagues) can produce outsized VOR for top players.
