Injury Risk Score
A pre-computed assessment of a player's likelihood of missing games based on historical injury patterns and workload data.
Category: General · Status: Active
What it measures
Injury Risk Score evaluates a player's durability profile using historical injury report data, games missed, injury types, and positional wear patterns. It provides a forward-looking risk assessment.
Inputs
- Historical injury reports: Practice participation status and game designations across prior seasons.
- Games missed per season: Total regular-season absences over the player's career.
- Injury type classification: Severity and recurrence patterns for specific injury types (soft tissue, structural, concussion).
- Positional injury base rates: Expected injury frequency by position used to calibrate risk above or below baseline.
Scale
- 0 – 25: Low risk - clean medical history with durable track record.
- 26 – 50: Moderate risk - some injury history but nothing chronic.
- 51 – 75: Elevated risk - recurring injuries or position with high baseline injury rate.
- 76 – 100: High risk - significant missed time expected based on historical patterns.
How to use it
- Check Injury Risk before drafting a player with elite talent but a concerning injury history.
- Use alongside Availability Rating for a complete health picture.
- High Injury Risk players should be paired with handcuffs or backup plans in roster construction.
Limitations
- Cannot predict freak injuries or first-time occurrences with no historical precedent.
- Does not account for surgical improvements or rehabilitation quality differences.
- Younger players with limited history may have artificially low scores due to insufficient data.
