Category: General ยท Status: Active
What it measures
The GRID (Gridiron Ratings IDentifier) system provides a single source of truth for player identity across the platform. Each player receives a unique UUID-based identifier displayed as GRID-{8char}.
Inputs
- Player name: Full legal name used as the primary matching key.
- Team assignment: Current NFL team, updated when players change teams.
- External ID mappings: Cross-references to Sleeper, ESPN, PFR, and other platform identifiers.
Scale
- GRID-{8char}: Unique 8-character identifier derived from the player's UUID, displayed on player cards and profiles.
How to use it
- Use GRID IDs to cross-reference players across rankings, news, depth charts, and projections.
- When a player changes teams, their GRID ID stays the same - all platform features update automatically.
- GRID IDs appear on player card fronts (top-left badge) and backs (header) for easy identification.
Limitations
- GRID IDs are not a performance metric - they serve as infrastructure for data integrity.
- Name matching for auto-linking may miss players with unusual name spellings or recent name changes.
- External ID mappings depend on third-party data sources which may have gaps or delays.
