Consistency Rating
Measures how reliably a player delivers fantasy points week-to-week, penalizing boom-or-bust scoring patterns.
Category: General ยท Status: Active
What it measures
Consistency Rating identifies players who produce reliable, predictable fantasy scoring versus those who alternate between huge weeks and duds. It uses a blended approach combining statistical variance analysis with binned scoring distribution.
Inputs
- Weekly fantasy point totals: Full-season PPR scoring data for each regular-season week.
- Coefficient of Variation (CV): Standard deviation divided by mean weekly score - lower CV means more consistent.
- 7-bin scoring distribution: Weekly scores bucketed into 7 performance bins measuring spread and concentration.
Scale
- 80 โ 99: Highly consistent - safe weekly starter with a reliable floor.
- 60 โ 79: Moderately consistent - occasional variance but generally dependable.
- 40 โ 59: Boom-or-bust - exciting ceiling weeks mixed with disappointing floors.
- Below 40: Highly volatile - best suited for best-ball formats or DFS.
How to use it
- In standard leagues, prioritize high-Consistency players for your weekly starting lineup.
- In best-ball formats, target low-Consistency players for ceiling upside.
- Use Consistency Rating alongside Performance Rating to find safe high-floor starters.
Limitations
- Blended formula (60% CV + 40% binned) weights may not perfectly capture all variance patterns.
- Players with few games played may have unreliable Consistency Ratings due to small sample size.
- Does not distinguish between floor games caused by game script vs. talent limitations.
