Welcome to the fantasy football’s Top 26 dynasty IDP targets under 26 in 2020. This series of articles is intended to help those fantasy football owners looking to revamp or start a dynasty roster. So why 26 under 26? Because our focus is on a group of fantasy football defensive players that are no older than 25. And have shown to be long term potential IDP assets at the highest level. The kind players we want to have on our rosters as they hit their prime years. And hopefully helping us earn a few titles as the seasons roll by.

Dynasty IDP Targets Ranking Ground Rules

Ranking fantasy football players can vary in opinions. So we will lay out the ground rules on how those IDP hairs were split between these players. Starting with the following things taken under consideration. And making this statement now.

No matter how, when. or why it’s an opinion.  And the same can be said on who the players are that are chosen to be in the rankings.

So with that being said, my credentials in IDP knowledge runs around fifteen years now. And much of that time is not just spent on fantasy football data. It also includes researching and keeping up on the latest reports and news. And although “numbers” have to be used to rank. I find that those IDP hairs are so thin to split that normally I’d soon have any player within a difference of ten from any given rank.

The point here is we’ll list the considerations taken into these rankings. And my personal opinions are just that. Because all of the 26 and likely a few that didn’t make my list, boils down to my personal preferences.

Now on to our Top 26 Dynasty IDP Targets under 26 years old for 2020.

Dynasty IDP Targets

Denver Bronco Outside Linebacker Bradley Chubb

Position: OLB/Edge Rusher  –  Height/Weight: 6-4, 275lb  –  Age As Of Jan. 1 2020: 23

Important Fantasy Football Notice On This Bradley Chubb “Take”

Although Chubb is technically a designated outside linebacker in the 3-4 defensive scheme with the Broncos in the NFL. We will be addressing him as an “edge rusher” designated for fantasy football IDP purposes. It is this writer’s opinion that an outside linebacker in this scheme is not normally worthy of the designated linebacker slot in fantasy football lineups. Because in most standard-sized leagues, with standard IDP scoring formats, and with a balance tackle to sack ratio in the scoring set up, is where the outside linebackers as edge rushers will hold their value.

This designation of an edge rusher can be found alongside the range of the defensive lineman, and mainly with the defensive ends in those formats. At least in those fantasy sites allowing such a designation in league settings. We urge IDP owners to know their league set up and IDP player’s values within the league to stay ahead of the game. For example, if your league is scored as a “sack” heavy league. Then Bradley Chubb’s value in these rankings would be higher for fantasy football purposes.

Reminder, these Gridiron Ratings listed above are as an edge rusher for fantasy football IDP purposes. And since Bradley Chubb ( knee / ACL* ) spent more than 75% of the 2019 season on injured reserve ( Weeks five through seventeen ) for the Broncos. So for that reason, we will forgo ranking his position ( * ) among the edger rushers for the 2019 season.

College Credentials

In college, Bradley Chubb played as a true freshman at N.C. State, but did so play sparingly. He only had the opportunity to record four tackles in eleven contests as part of the Wolfpack. But then as a sophomore, he did begin to show his pass-rushing potential with 6 sacks and adding twelve tackles for a loss on the season.

In his junior year, he turned the corner even more and received an ALL-ACC second team by the coaches along with a team Defensive MVP award. He was also ranked nationally in the top four with 22 tackles for a loss, ten sacks, and threw in three forced fumbles for good measure.

Chubb then took it to the highest level in his senior year. Earning first-team All-American, first-team All-ACC, a Hendricks for the best defensive end, and Bronko Nagurski for the best defender. He was second in the FBS with 72 combined tackles, ten sacks, three fumbles, two passes defended, and a whopping 26 tackles for a loss in total.

NFL Recap

The Broncos selected Chubb in the first round and was the fifth pick off the board in 2018. The selection instantly paid off for the organization. They inserted him as a starter on defense and never looked back. And with a full-time role with nearly 80% of the snaps, it showed well for Chubb’s 2018 statistics.

Chubb’s highlighted stats his rookie season included 60 combined tackles, which among the 3-4 OLB / Edge rushers was well above the average. Adding 12 sacks that were tied for ranked 14th among all defensive players and 1st among all the rookies.

In 2019 he started just as hot with 21 combined tackle, one sack, six quarterback hits, and five tackles for a loss. Adding one pass defended and one forced fumble. But unfortunately for the Broncos, he then missed the remainder of the season with an ACL knee injury.

Fantasy Football Dynasty IDP Targets Summary

At the time this article was written, we have no negative reports from any resource that we can find about any setbacks with the ACL injury. This is great for fantasy football communities. Chubb is 23 years old so he could be able to heal up in time for the start of this season with the injury occurring when it did. Whether or not he is 100% might be in question, just something to keep in mind.

It is this writer’s opinion that the best approach for the upcoming season is to look at Chubb as a depth player. And then be delighted if he does return from the ACL injury at 100%. And long term as one of the dynasty IDP targets, owners should be excited.

To explain we’ll use an example and talk about Von Miller, his teammate. Von Miller has played the “weakside” edge rusher in the Broncos scheme while Chubb has been there. That position is the preferred position in terms of the opportunity to make big plays. And Von Miller has already shown signs he is “losing a step” in 2019 at the age of 30. Miller is also only under contract with the Broncos though 2020. And the team also has an optional “out” this offseason. So Chubb’s potential to take over that “weakside” edge rusher position will likely happen sooner rather than later.

As for the example, the Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter took over the “weakside” position two seasons ago. He went from a good option to one of the best options for IDP purposes instantly. And it is this writer’s opinion that Chubb is as comparable edge rusher to Hunter as we can get in terms of talent.

Chubb would be higher in these rankings if not for the ACL injury.
