So why 26 under 26? Because our focus is on a group of fantasy football defensive players that are no older than 25. And have shown to be long term potential IDP assets at the highest level. The kind players we want to have on our rosters as they hit their prime years. And hopefully helping us earn a few titles as the seasons roll by.
Dynasty IDP Targets Ranking Ground Rules
Ranking fantasy football players can vary in opinions. So we will lay out the ground rules on how those IDP hairs were split between these players. Starting with the following things taken under consideration. And making this statement now.
No matter how, when. or why it’s an opinion. And the same can be said on who the players are that are chosen to be in the rankings.
So with that being said, my credentials in IDP knowledge runs around fifteen years now. And much of that time is not just spent on fantasy football data. It also includes researching and keeping up on the latest reports and news. And although “numbers” have to be used to rank. I find that those IDP hairs are so thin to split that normally I’d soon have any player within a difference of ten from any given rank.
The point here is we’ll list the considerations taken into these rankings. And my personal opinions are just that. Because all of the 26 and likely a few that didn’t make my list, boils down to my personal preferences.
Now on to our Top 26 Dynasty IDP Targets under 26 years old for 2020.

2020’s Fantasy Football Top Dynasty IDP Targets: #21
San Francisco 49er Linebacker Fred Warner
Position: W/MLB – Height/Weight: 6-3, 236lb – Age As Of Jan. 1 2020: 23
Salary / Contract
20 Yd Shuttle
A four-star recruit out of California Fred Warner took his talents to BYU for his college career. He became a starter with the first-team defense as a sophomore in 2015. Making his mark with the team that year with 67 tackles, 12 for a loss, 4 sacks, and added 4 fumbles recovered.
Warner then went on to earn first-team All-Independent honors in 2016 his junior year. Recording 86 tackles, 11 for a loss, 2 sack, and including 3 interceptions that season. He then finished up as a senior leading the Cougars with 87 tackles, 9 for a loss, 5 passes defended, and one interception.
Warner was drafted by the 49ers in the third round, selected as the sixth pick in 2018. He instantly earned a middle linebacker position entering the season. And then become the captain of the defense after an injury to Reuben Foster in the sixth week. He finished the year with 124 combined tackles, 3 for a loss, a forced and one recovered fumble.
The 49ers then signed Kwon Alexander in the offseason after releasing Reuben Foster. Sliding Warner into a supporting role as a starter next to Alexander as the captain of the defense in 2019. That lasted until week 8 when Alexander went down with an injury sending him to the injured reserves. So Warner again stepped up as the play-caller finishing the season on a high note.
Fantasy Football Dynasty IDP Targets Summary
Some fantasy football owners may wonder how I added Warner to the top 26 under 26 dynasty IDP targets ranking. Especially with the potential that Kwon Alexander could be back in 2020 and fully recovered from his injury. It is pretty simple from this writer’s point of view of the situation. I am not convinced that Alexander can stay healthy in any given season. And would like to add I spent most of the last offseason informing those who would listen to avoid him in 2018 because of his injury history.
Kwon Alexander did sign a long term deal with the 49ers for the next few seasons. But there is a potential out clause this offseason if the team choices to move on. It is an out that could save the team millions if they would release him. That savings can be seen here in the details of Alexanders contract. Will they release him? We can’t assume they will. But Warner has shown that he can get the job done for two seasons in a row. And with Dre Greenlaw stepping up and feeling the void next to warner with Alexander out may help influence the decision. This is just something IDP owners of Warner, Greenlaw, and Alexander need to keep in mind this offseason.
It is this writer’s opinion
Warner, at the age of 23 in the long term dynasty IDP targets player we want to focus on in San Fransico. He was a third-round selection which is showing the organization did hold him in high regard when they selected him. And as we can see from his NFL “take” above Warner has managed to come through now for two seasons in a row they needed him too. It’s my opinion as well that even if they would decide to keep Alexander that Warner will remain an IDP asset for fantasy football. It might not be as the top of the “top tier”, but he will still be a player long term we can benefit from as our possible third or fourth linebacker. Depending on the league’s starting lineup platform.
I would like to add that Warner earned higher marks from me. And if not for the question that Alexander could return in 2020, Warner would have made the top 20 in these rankings.
