Welcome to the fantasy football’s Top 26 dynasty IDP targets under 26 in 2020. This series of articles is intended to help those fantasy football owners looking to revamp or start a dynasty roster. So why 26 under 26? Because our focus is on a group of fantasy football defensive players that are no older than 25. And have shown to be long term potential IDP assets at the highest level. The kind players we want to have on our rosters as they hit their prime years. And hopefully helping us earn a few titles as the seasons roll by.
Dynasty IDP Targets Ranking Ground Rules
Ranking fantasy football players can vary in opinions. So we will lay out the ground rules on how those IDP hairs were split between these players. Starting with the following things taken under consideration. And making this statement now.
No matter how, when. or why it’s an opinion. And the same can be said on who the players are that are chosen to be in the rankings.
So with that being said, my credentials in IDP knowledge runs around fifteen years now. And much of that time is not just spent on fantasy football data. It also includes researching and keeping up on the latest reports and news. And although “numbers” have to be used to rank. I find that those IDP hairs are so thin to split that normally I’d soon have any player within a difference of ten from any given rank.
The point here is we’ll list the considerations taken into these rankings. And my personal opinions are just that. Because all of the 26 and likely a few that didn’t make my list, boils down to my personal preferences.
Now on to our Top 26 Dynasty IDP Targets under 26 years old for 2020.

DeForest Buckner played every contest as a true-freshman as an Oregan Duck in 2012. In those thirteen games, he recorded 29 combined tackles, three for a loss, and one sack. Then in 2014, as a sophomore, followed it up recording 39 combined tackles, three sacks, and four tackles for a loss in twelve games.
And proceed to blow things up at the college level his Junior and Senior seasons in 2014 and 2015. In those two seasons, he had a total of 164 combined tackles, 30 for a loss, and 15 sacks. All while demonstrating his dominance at the line of scrimmage, recording ten passed defended, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recovers in his college career.
Over that period, he was honored with multiple awards. Including the 2015 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Ted Hendricks Award finalist and named a member of multiple first-team All-American squads. And not to mention the second-team USA and AP All-American honors.
The San Fransico 49ers have spent a lot of first-round capital in the NFL drafts over the last few years. Including names like Nick Bosa (2018), Solomon Thomas (2017), and Arik Armstead in 2015. But none can compare to the Buckner selection in 2016. At least in the term of adding an anchor to that front seven of the defense.
In four years, he has been an iron man in terms of defensive snap counts among the league’s defensive lineman. The numbers don’t lie with an average of 80% of the snaps available in that period. He has witnessed the poor seasons as well as this season as they head into the playoffs. And all Buckner has done is be a constant and dominating pro the whole time.
In a total of 63 games, with 63 starts, Buckner has produced for the 49ers at the highest of levels. Recording 262 combined tackles, 38 tackles for a loss, and 29 sacks. And as a defensive tackle in the NFL, this is outstanding among any comparable career player in the league. Not to mention and other notable plays like passes defended and forced fumbles we can see in the chart below. And we can’t overlook those 74 hits on the quarterbacks either. A sure sign Buckner is applying the pressure as well as stuffing the running backs. Something that defensive tackles aren’t exactly expected to do, or at least at the level he has consistently.
Fantasy Football Dynasty IDP Targets Summary
Buckner is the highest-ranked defensive tackle of the two in these dynasty IDP targets under 26 rankings. And oddly enough, the feeling is he should be a little higher in terms of what he has meant for fantasy football owners. But at last, not everyone can be a top ten and even getting him in the top fifteen wasn’t possible. He has been a core defensive tackle and defensive lineman play for us for some time. And depending on our scoring formats, he is likely a top-five option, and certainly has to be in the top fifteen conversations each year in leagues.
It is this Writer’s Opinion
It is this writer’s opinion that Buckner remains a dynasty asset for around three more years. He is only going to be turning 26 and technically only hitting the start of his prime years this season. In these next three years, we could expect him to start his run at another four or five years worth of top IDP production. Surely the 49ers are done adding the first-round talent after the addition of Nick bosa this season. And I have to admit, with the Bosa addition this writer thought that we might see a regression in statistics in 2018. Thinking that if everyone stayed healthy that there simply wouldn’t be enough to go around. Lucky for us fantasy football owners that were not the case.
I normally would not suggest defensive tackles going high in a start-up draft. Or spending what it will take to acquire him in a trade from another owner. But there are only a handful of defensive tackles that can be depended on consistently. And Buckner has proven that he is capable of being match up proof overall. So if your in the last part of the second wave or third wave of a draft you could do a lot worse if you select him. Or go and spend what it takes to get him in a trade. And if you own him already, do be sure not to sell him short. Because it would likely be something you’d regret for the next four or five seasons.
