Welcome to the Super Bowl LIV quick hits presented by Gridiron Ratings. Where we’ll be talking about either a Kansa City or San Francisco player that will be key in Sunday’s game. And will either need to step it up or do what they do best to help win the biggest game of the year. This year’s contest is as intriguing as it gets when it comes to personal on both sides of the football. And we’re going to break down some of those situations that will determine who’ll bring the Lombardi trophy home.
Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley #41
The 49ers will depend on Moseley to secure the field opposite veteran Richard Sherman Sunday. And that won’t be an easy task facing the Chiefs pass-catchers Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Travis Kelce. But Moseley has shown he is capable of getting it done after assuming the starting job mid-season last year.
According to PFF, his 68.8 coverage grade ranks 38th among cornerbacks in the NFL from the regular-season contests. And the Football Outsiders had excellent charting metrics on him from the regular-season as well. Coming in at tenth with a 63% coverage success rate and fourteenth in allowing 6.3 yards per pass completed.
This postseason, he has only allowed six receptions out of eleven times he was targeted. And only gave up 58 yards in those two games in the process. He also has added one interception and not allowed a touchdown this post-season versus the Vikings and Packers. Also accumulating nine combined tackles, with one for a loss, and one pass defended. He’ll have to dig deep again this contest if the 49ers are to stop Patrick Mahomes and the weaponized pass attack of the Chiefs.
