Welcome to the Super Bowl LIV quick hits presented by Gridiron Ratings. Where we’ll be talking about either a Kansa City or San Francisco player that will be key in Sunday’s game. And will either need to step it up or do what they do best to help win the biggest game of the year. This year’s contest is as intriguing as it gets when it comes to personal on both sides of the football. And we’re going to break down some of those situations that will determine who’ll bring the Lombardi trophy home.
Defensive End Arik Armstead #91
Why Arik Armstead? Because his availability on the 49ers defensive line is just as impactful as Deforsst Buckners or Nick Bosas. The former first-round selection has been a huge part of getting this team to the Super Bowl as anyone on the defense. He has had a career year with 54 combined tackles and ten sacks in 2019. And across the board, he has performed at the same level as Buckner and Bosa every game.
His impact Sunday will be just as crucial for the 49ers as anything. According to PFF, Armstead is ranked third among the edge rushers with a grade of 90.0. And notably, he graded well in stopping the run as well as getting to the quarterback consistently.
According to the Football Outsiders, the Chiefs offensive line is fierce on both accounts for the most part. Likely meaning that his addition to applying the pressure will be as important as Bosas and Buckners. And he is one of those defensive linemen that if he is on par, then the rest of them are, and they all are getting the job done together.
