2020 Rookie IDP Player Situational Reports: AFC West
June 10, 2020 No Comments Article, IDP Dime Drops Gary Van Dyke

Welcome to The 2020 Rookie IDP Player Situational Reports for our fantasy football assessment purposes. It’s a proven fact that a rookie’s situation with his new team can dictate his value for fantasy football as much as his talent. And in this series, we will cover the players drafted team by team to gauge our expectations for our dynasty fantasy football rosters.

The Squads Key For Fantasy Football

The First Squad: Possible clear path to immediate playing time now.

The Taxi Squad: Possible path to rotational playing time now.

The Practice Squad: Possible path to playing after a developmental period.

NOTE: We are not including undrafted free agents signed (deep long-shots) by any NFL teams at this time.

Dynasty IDP Targets

Denver’s Four Defensive Draft Picks

The Taxi Squad
  • Michael Ojemudia, pick 3.77, out of Iowa, will need to overachieve in 2020 to surpass his depth chart competition. His situational is favorable, but he’ll need some developmental time within the system to improve his mental approach. And it’s that pro-state of mind that the veterans ahead of him have the advantage with. Because psychically Ojemudia can get the job done as long as he doesn’t have a lapse of judgment in the process. So this determining factor could play out his rookie season, but our best-case scenario is looking at a wider IDP window in 2021 opening up.
  • McTelivin Agim, pick 3.95, out of Arkansas, is basically sitting like Ojemudia within his situational. But might have a touch more upside, depending on where the Broncos decide to focus his potential at. And although he needs some developmental time too, if he is used as a nose tackle, he could advance sooner rather than later. But there is an “IDP Catch 22” to this scenario, rarely does that position amount to much IDP relevancy. And on the other hand, if they chose to use him as a defensive tackle or defensive end, his best situational for now is in rotation. And this rookie would be hard-pressed to outplay veterans Jurrell Casey and Shelby Harris. At least for a substantial amount of playing time in 2020 within that rotation.
The Practice Squad
  • The following later round rookies are currently not ranked in our top 36 rankings. And they’ll have a long way to go to make an IDP impact. And for now, their best situational case scenario is to make the roster as depth and special teams players.
  • Linebacker Justin Strnad < Note: Was borderline Taxi Squad. A rookie to watch and track when final cuts are made.
  • Defensive Lineman Derek Tuszka

Kansas City’s Four Defensive Draft Picks

The First Squad
  • Willia Gay Jr., pick 2.63, out of Mississippi State, has a great situational with a touch of questionable circumstances applied. Can he outplay the current talent on the Chiefs roster at the inside linebacker position? Yes, he can. The real circumstance Gay will need to overcome is how the Chiefs have a history of using their inside linebackers. Or should we say, how much they use them? If it wasn’t for this reason, Gay would be getting so much more IDP love in the fantasy football community. And for these reasons, our best approach to his situation is to pencil him in as a rotational player for 2020. And hope for the best in 2021 if things don’t take a turn for the better this season.
The Practice Squad
  • The following later round rookies are currently not ranked in our top 36 rankings. And they’ll have a long way to go to make an IDP impact. And for now, their best situational case scenario is to make the roster as depth and special teams players.
  • Safety L’Jarius Sneed
  • Defensive End Michael Danna
  • Cornerback Thakarius Keyes

Los Angeles’s Two Defensive Draft Picks

The First Squad
  • Kenneth Murry, pick 1.23, out of Oklahoma, definitely has one of the best rookie inside linebacker IDP situations from this year’s IDP class. Not only is his draft stock on par, but his skill set fits the Charger’s needs like a glove. And as long as the Charger’s give this rookie a full complement of snaps as a full-time player, he’ll offer his IDP owners relevancy off the top. Not to mention long term dynasty value that any fantasy football owner would want on his roster. Simply put, with no competition for his role, it’s Murry’s gig to lose and up to the Chargers to secure that thinking this coming season.
The Practice Squad
  • The following later round rookies are currently not ranked in our top 36 rankings. And they’ll have a long way to go to make an IDP impact. And for now, their best situational case scenario is to make the roster as depth and special teams players.
  • Safety Alohi Gilman

Las Vegas’s Three Defensive Draft Picks

The First Squad
  • Damon Arnette, pick 1.19, out of Ohio State, will certainly have some role with the starting defense based on his skillset and draft status. whether it is an outside starting cornerback or a slot guy remains to be seen his rookie season. It’s no clear path with Prince Amukamara, second-year second-round Trayvon Mullen, and even former free safety, Lamarcus Joyner all in play. So this First Squad designation is a bit tricky because it might not completely play out right away. And if we are to assume he can outplay those veterans, for a starting gig, he’ll likely be tested early and often by opposing quarterbacks. Making him a nice option for IDP owners looking for actual cornerbacks with upside for a few seasons.
The Practice Squad
  • The following later round rookies are currently not ranked in our top 36 rankings. And they’ll have a long way to go to make an IDP impact. And for now, their best situational case scenario is to make the roster as depth and special teams players.
  • Safety turning (reportedly) Linebacker Tanner Muse
  • Cornerback Amik Robertson
