Welcome to the fantasy football’s Top 26 dynasty IDP targets under 26 in 2020. This series of articles is intended to help those fantasy football owners looking to revamp or start a dynasty roster. So why 26 under 26? Because our focus is on a group of fantasy football defensive players that are no older than 25. And have shown to be long term potential IDP assets at the highest level. The kind players we want to have on our rosters as they hit their prime years. And hopefully helping us earn a few titles as the seasons roll by.

Dynasty IDP Targets Ranking Ground Rules

Ranking fantasy football players can vary in opinions. So we will lay out the ground rules on how those IDP hairs were split between these players. Starting with the following things taken under consideration. And making this statement now.

No matter how, when. or why it’s an opinion.  And the same can be said on who the players are that are chosen to be in the rankings.

So with that being said, my credentials in IDP knowledge runs around fifteen years now. And much of that time is not just spent on fantasy football data. It also includes researching and keeping up on the latest reports and news. And although “numbers” have to be used to rank. I find that those IDP hairs are so thin to split that normally I’d soon have any player within a difference of ten from any given rank.

The point here is we’ll list the considerations taken into these rankings. And my personal opinions are just that. Because all of the 26 and likely a few that didn’t make my list, boils down to my personal preferences.

Now on to our Top 26 Dynasty IDP Targets under 26 years old for 2020.

As a Ragin’ Cajun redshirt freshman in Louisiana-Lafette in 2014, he earned Freshman All-Sun Belt honors. When as an eight games starter he recorded 44 tackles, two interceptions, and added three passes defended. Then as a starting sophomore, he went for 74 tackles, five tackles for a loss, one interception, and added six passes defended. And as a junior, Walker led the team with three interceptions while recording 61 tackles. With an additional three tackles for a loss. Then in his senior season, he dominated with a total of 97 combined tackles. While adding 4 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and six passes defended going on to earn a third-team All-Sun Belt honors.

NFL Recap

Drafted 82nd overall in the 2nd round of 2018 by the Detriot Lions, Tracy Walker wasn’t what Lions fans expected at that pick. But they had to be pleasantly surprised after seeing him play as a starter in 2019. As a rookie, he played sparingly behind veterans, Glover Quin, converted cornerback Quandre Diggs, and Tavon Wilson as the fourth safety. But he did send fan-favorite Miles Killebrew to the bench. And Killebrew was a player expected to take on a bigger role in 2018 after being drafted in 2016.

In 2019 the door was wide opened for Walker to earn a starting position after long-time veteran Glover Quin retired. But again many expected Killebrew to get his shot along with Tavon Wilson as the free safety with Diggs starting at the strong safety position. But that was not how it played out as Walker was given every opportunity to earn the starting position in the offseason. And we can see he took full advantage of and entered the season as the starting free safety. While noting that Killebrew went to the wayside. So by the end of the summer, Diggs and Walker became the 2019 starters the first week of the season. And Wilson was the third guy on the depth chart.

Fantasy Football Dynasty IDP Targets Summary

Tracy Walker instantly became an IDP asset for fantasy football in 2019. And from this writer’s perspective, it was not shocking. Because I had done an “IDP Dime Drop” article last June advising owners to pick him up cheap. So I can say that his progress throughout the season was very interesting.

Walker hit the ground running, averaging seven tackles a contest, and 1.5 playmaking plays like interceptions and other game-changing plays. And while doing so, he was an upper-tier option in the process. But then he hit four weeks with a knee injury that kept him off the field or limited when he could play.

After returning he eventually returned to form. And finished the season averaging six combined tackles, but dropped in play-making plays to under one a contest. This was likely due to the lingering injury or taking his foot off the gas pedal to stay healthy. But he still managed to remain a reliable IDP player in those last five weeks.

In my opinion, he would be higher in these rankings if not for a couple of reasons. The first would be that the safeties ranked ahead of him have more seasons under their belts. And the second is that we prefer to see consecutive seasons of playing at this level.

Walker’s role in that defense is what we want to have as a dynasty IDP target. He is more than the normal free safety on that squad. He is a “key cog” player that the Lion’s depend on heavily. And he leads by example by putting himself in the right place at the right time. As long as he maintains this he’ll be a dynasty IDP target owners will enjoy for the next four or three or four seasons, as he enters his prime years.
